Lately, and probably always, I’ve been into art that seems overwhelming when you really look into the detail and almost manic obsession of the work, yet as a whole its familiar yet strange.  By way of one of one of my most visited blogs, Whimsical World of Laura Bird, I discovered Rachel Perry Welty. Her “Lost in my Life” series is incredible. Using thousands of the throw away items we use everyday, and creating art that has texture, complexity, and meaning.

She describes: “most of us don’t pay much attention to the mundane objects we use everyday, like the twist ties that hold the plastic wrap on our bread and the broccoli together or the little paper cups that we pull out of a water dispenser.”

Man, her place must be insane! Just imagine tupperware full of twisty ties, rubber-bands, and fruit stickers. I love it!

Let’s all toast to the New Year!

Happy New Year Everyone! Wow! What an awesome holiday season we had here at happy delusions. Our 4th and Best December yet! Thanks to you all who have been wonderful supporters of the shop. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

So here we are at the beginning of what I’m deeming to be the best year ever, 2011. Last night a group of us head over to the Whistle Stop to help create and vote on their newest beverage, The happy delusion. After 13 rounds of trial and error, some very inebriated friends finally decided on a drink we all loved. Thanks to Jeff, Perry, and all the Whistle Stop staff for an amazing night out with friends, and for having a drink in our honor.

Now it’s your turn to get involved. Go over to the Whistle Stop and try “The happy delusion”. It consists of Southern Comfort, Malibu Rum, Lemon Vodka, Midori, Sweet & Sour, and a splash of sprite. Garnished with a lemon and served on ice in a pint glass or up in a martini glass. How amazing does that sound? After you try “The happy delusion”, be sure to enjoy some of Whistle Stops fine foods, then come back to the blog or let Jeff and I know what you think on the happy delusions facebook or Whistle Stops facebook page.

The Madly Creative mastermind Lady P has recently started selling these amazing bags in the shop. And being that she is great with the camera, I figured I’d just set up the link to her blog so you can check them all out. For there is no way I could possible do them justice any other way.

The Picaroon

For all your Renton garrrr-sop.

For all your Renton garrrr-sop.

If you live in or around Renton, or are planning a trip to the area you absolutely must check out “The Picaroon”. Lady P as she refers to herself is the “Mistress of the blog”. She’s very local and truly cares about the community and the people in it. Every time I visit The Picaroon (which, if you didn’t know as I didn’t, means pirate) there is a new post. Sometimes she post several times a day AND she has a second more personal blog that is also updated regularly.  Lady P takes beautiful photo’s and really gets in touch with the people. Her focus is mainly the downtown area, which makes complete sense for someone who lives and plays in our wonderful downtown. Although the very bouncy, cheerful, sunshine that is Lady P has requested that photo’s of her not be posted, but look out for her at the next city function taking pictures. She may even ask to use your photo in her very popular blog. And for goodness sakes, if you have an event coming up that you think us locals should know about please contact her. After all her info. is likely posted that day.

Blogging about Renton Blogs!

For those of you who don’t get the fabulous Renton Reporter, and for those of you who, for whatever reason, don’t open or read the Renton Reporter, I’m here to tell you that us bloggers are making an impact in our community. In todays paper Dean Radford plugged us active bloggers. Good lookin out Dean. And Yes I agree, who wouldn’t want to enjoy me! :) Here’s the article:

Back to rentonreporter.com

Anyway, back to my bread-and-butter-world, the rentonreporter.com and the Renton Reporter.

Earlier, I mentioned in a column the idea that “Renton Starts Here.” We want you to think of rentonreporter.com as your cyberspace portal to Renton. There’s a lot out there, including some very active sites and bloggers in Renton who add mightily to the community discussion. Here are a few:

randycorman.com. Randy is a longtime member of the Renton City Council and really has a lot of fun sharing his knowledge of the city and his family’s doings.

rentonjournal.com. Started by Randy’s son Andy.

renton425.livejournal.com. Rich Zwicker’s site, Renton425 – Life in North Renton. He’s also a member of the Renton City Council, and, like Corman, is running for re-election.

thepicaroon.blogspot.com. Where as it says, rumors are turned respectable.

allaboutrenton.wordpress.com. A fun read.

happydelusions.wordpress.com. Who wouldn’t enjoy Mary Clymer.

There are more. But this will get you started.
