Art Walk

Midnight Forest

The 5th Annual Downtown Renton Art & Antique Walk is finally here! Tomorrow, Saturday August 28th from 11-6. This will be my first time showing my felt creations in the event. I will be in front of happy delusions along with the very talented Jennifer Brooks-Owen. DJ Corporate will be spinning beats during the festivities, and a good time is sure to be had. Don’t miss out, the streets of South 3rd will be filled with Art and Artists, starting at Main Ave and continuing up all the way to Safeway! Then at 6 at the Renton Civic Theatre Rentons own EriAm Sisters will be performing. The whole event is FREE! Woo Hoo! although there is a suggested $10 donation to see the EriAm Sisters. Not bad for a Nationally known act.  For more information on tomorrows events go to arts unlimited website.

Grassroot poster creates a buzz!

Check out this cool poster handmade by Catherine Mill of Renton WA. It was done in an awesome grassroots effort to save our local library from KCLS (King County Library System). In a nutshell, and with everyone feeling the effects of the economy, so is dear ol’ Renton. A special election is being held Feb. 9 to annex or not.  Word got out and the people are talking. It’s been so neat to see so many residents get involved and make a difference. Renton, in my opinion, projects an image and displays banners to encourage work, live, play, within our city. I do this and love this. We are in support of the little guy. Heck, we are the little guy. Why would such an amazing city want to give up our local library when everything they are promoting says that they want us to be local and independent? This confuses me, and as a downtown business owner I would be personally effected if our library were to leave, and my taxes went up. So whats the deal? Something seems off, but I still believe in our city, I believe in the downtown, I believe amazing things can happen when people realize they matter and get involved, I believe issues like this enpower us to do more, and I believe that the people will VOTE NO ON PROP. 1 and keep our libraries in our own control. Ballots are out, and if you haven’t made a decision yet, or have voted yes and want to change, there is still time, please check out these sites for more accurate info.

The Picaroon

For all your Renton garrrr-sop.

For all your Renton garrrr-sop.

If you live in or around Renton, or are planning a trip to the area you absolutely must check out “The Picaroon”. Lady P as she refers to herself is the “Mistress of the blog”. She’s very local and truly cares about the community and the people in it. Every time I visit The Picaroon (which, if you didn’t know as I didn’t, means pirate) there is a new post. Sometimes she post several times a day AND she has a second more personal blog that is also updated regularly.  Lady P takes beautiful photo’s and really gets in touch with the people. Her focus is mainly the downtown area, which makes complete sense for someone who lives and plays in our wonderful downtown. Although the very bouncy, cheerful, sunshine that is Lady P has requested that photo’s of her not be posted, but look out for her at the next city function taking pictures. She may even ask to use your photo in her very popular blog. And for goodness sakes, if you have an event coming up that you think us locals should know about please contact her. After all her info. is likely posted that day.
