Art & Antique Walk

The 5th Annual Downtown Renton Art & Antique Walk livens up Downtown’s streets with paintings, multi-media, pottery, sculpture, crafts and photography displays from over 100 local artists.  Meet the artists, explore the antiques, enjoy live music and dance performances and rediscover Downtown Renton.  Exhibits and performances mostly along S 3rd. from 11-6, on Saturday August 28th.

I will be participating this year for the first time as an artist with my fiber felt murals. I’m so excited! You can see me in front of happy delusions along with Jennifer Brooks Owen. Jenn not only blows beautiful glass beads, she also works her magic with colored pencil and watercolors.

Every year just gets better and better. There isn’t much time left and only room for a couple more artists, so please sign up today. It’s only $10 to participate and you get to keep all your own proceeds. Hurray!

Check out artsunlimited.org for more info. and for the application.

Mandy Greer

So it’s Stitch & Bitch Sunday here at happy delusions where if you don’t know already, you are invited to come down and join in our little stitch fest. And as always, I feel it only right to bring attention to some amazing stitchers out in the world. Today I’d like to let everyone know about Mandy Greer. I was first intro’ed to this lady while watching handmade nation, which if you haven’t already, go watch this documentary by Faythe Levine. It’s what got me do to my sweet PBR latchhook, that I’ve had such recent success on. If you’re in the Seattle area get your booty down to Roq La Rue before May 7th and see her rad chandeliers at the “Lust Life 2″ Group Invitational, and support our local galleries and artist in them. Mandy is one of the women who can take her vision and really put it into a piece that will leave your eyes to hours of wonder and enjoyment. So much going on, so much detail, so much fun, and so much work. Way to go girl. I literally have dreams of her work in my shop windows. I mean hey, a girls gotta dream. :)

Yarn Bombing!!

Yarn Bombed Tree

Yarn Bombed Tree

On Monday two Guerrilla Knitters from Renton went out and participated in a world wide Yarn Bombing! The goal was to knit or crochet a cozy onto sometime. These two ladies decided on the tree outside my shop. It was awesome. The tree looked great and all kinds of people came out to help and watch. I personally had 3 people tell me that seeing the tree made their day, as it did mine. About an hour in, the parks dept came by and let the bombers know they had to remove all yarn and was incredible rude about the whole thing. the two ladies were calm and decide a few picture were in- order first. “The Man” left claiming that he’d be back in an hour and everything better be cleaned up. After reviewing the consequences the artists decided this way there form of art in action and really had brought the community together to talk over the last hour. No, no they would not remove they’re contribution to the arts of downtown, instead they bounced on out of there. All day people were admiring and adding to the peace bombed yarn tree. Sadly, it was taken down by authorities at 9am the next day. But not before making the top post on grrl + dog blog spot. It’s still number one, check it out here http://www.dneese.blogspot.com, tons of yarn bombers all over the globe participated and this tree is definitely one of the best. Go there to see more photo’s, also check out http://www.madlycreative.blogspot.com to learn more. I even think it popped up on http://www.allaboutrenton.wordpress.com. So no fear my guerrilla knitters of Renton, you may have been caught, but how fun and your message will live on forever in the world wide web. Hold your sticks proud ladies!
