Crystal-Eye of the beholder  Join us this coming Thursday as I, along with the Renton History Museum present to you The Twilight Zone Art Show. Featuring work by local artist with the subject being the ever popular iconic television series. Thursday September 10th from 5:30-8:30

Check out this cool poster handmade by Catherine Mill of Renton WA. It was done in an awesome grassroots effort to save our local library from KCLS (King County Library System). In a nutshell, and with everyone feeling the effects of the economy, so is dear ol’ Renton. A special election is being held Feb. 9 to annex or not.  Word got out and the people are talking. It’s been so neat to see so many residents get involved and make a difference. Renton, in my opinion, projects an image and displays banners to encourage work, live, play, within our city. I do this and love this. We are in support of the little guy. Heck, we are the little guy. Why would such an amazing city want to give up our local library when everything they are promoting says that they want us to be local and independent? This confuses me, and as a downtown business owner I would be personally effected if our library were to leave, and my taxes went up. So whats the deal? Something seems off, but I still believe in our city, I believe in the downtown, I believe amazing things can happen when people realize they matter and get involved, I believe issues like this enpower us to do more, and I believe that the people will VOTE NO ON PROP. 1 and keep our libraries in our own control. Ballots are out, and if you haven’t made a decision yet, or have voted yes and want to change, there is still time, please check out these sites for more accurate info.

Finally!

Finally!

Well it case you haven’t been paying attention, a week from today is Mother’s Day. And this is the week to really think about the kind of thing to give Mom that says it all. I always struggle with this one because my Mom rocks and nothing I give could ever express my gratitude. I did try this breathspray from Blue Q, and let me tell you, it made the whole decision making process way mass easy. It was like for the first time ever I knew exactly what to get Mom. Almost like….well………like I understood her. Crazy.

Throughout the week I will be highlighting special things for Mom’s throughout the shop. But come on guys, don’t wait til the last minute like last year. Your Mom will know it when you turn up at brunch with only flowers again. This year, get her something to really show you care.

Also, check out allaboutrenton.wordpress.com all week for Mothers Day gifts that you can buy locally.

Yarn Bombed Tree

Yarn Bombed Tree

On Monday two Guerrilla Knitters from Renton went out and participated in a world wide Yarn Bombing! The goal was to knit or crochet a cozy onto sometime. These two ladies decided on the tree outside my shop. It was awesome. The tree looked great and all kinds of people came out to help and watch. I personally had 3 people tell me that seeing the tree made their day, as it did mine. About an hour in, the parks dept came by and let the bombers know they had to remove all yarn and was incredible rude about the whole thing. the two ladies were calm and decide a few picture were in- order first. “The Man” left claiming that he’d be back in an hour and everything better be cleaned up. After reviewing the consequences the artists decided this way there form of art in action and really had brought the community together to talk over the last hour. No, no they would not remove they’re contribution to the arts of downtown, instead they bounced on out of there. All day people were admiring and adding to the peace bombed yarn tree. Sadly, it was taken down by authorities at 9am the next day. But not before making the top post on grrl + dog blog spot. It’s still number one, check it out here http://www.dneese.blogspot.com, tons of yarn bombers all over the globe participated and this tree is definitely one of the best. Go there to see more photo’s, also check out http://www.madlycreative.blogspot.com to learn more. I even think it popped up on http://www.allaboutrenton.wordpress.com. So no fear my guerrilla knitters of Renton, you may have been caught, but how fun and your message will live on forever in the world wide web. Hold your sticks proud ladies!

Check it out folks. Renton has a new website where us business owners can advertise in the form of a video collectively. Go check it out and see all the great things there are to do here in Renton. http://www.insiderenton.com

My video is just over a minute long and I’m curious to see what you all have to say about it. Let me know.

2009 is here! I’m super excited about the coming year. I really wanted to start out the year with a bang! But I wasn’t looking forward to starting out hung over, so instead of drinkinin the new year I played it mellow, tuning my guitar and relaxing. It was decided by me that Me and My cousins Brian, and Vinnie should do some band bonding my jumping in the water in Renton’s Bear Dip. About 1 am I started to get cold feet. Vinnie bailed out right away, and Brain was at my door by 10 speedo and all. Yikes! Now that’s showing commitment to the band. I couldn’t not go, and thank god because my parents had traveled down to watch us. Thanks for taking photo’s Dad! So it was rad, in and out and the worst part was my toes on the cold beach.  After a nice long hot shower I went to breakfast with my parents and then on my first solo vaca. Now I’m back and ready to be an active blogger. I am curious what everyone’s new year goals are. And if anyone in the Renton area wants to start running with  me. Please! I’m ready. Happy New Year World!

If you haven’t noticed the “all about Renton” link on the side of my blog yet, please take the time and check it out. Lynar does a great job getting info. out into the web whenever an event is happening in this town. She is out and about almost every day with her son visiting parks, museums, shops, and restaurants and writing all about it on her blog, www.allaboutrenton.wordpress.com.

Miss Lynar acting crazy

Miss Lynar acting crazy

Being that Lynar is not a native of Washington, when she moved here last year she made a point to get out there and find all the fun. I find that she’s more in the know about Renton than most the locals.

She’s also started a calander of events on her page, so please check it out and send her a note if you have an event to add. Odd’s are you’ll see her around Renton and possibly at your next social function.

Lynar and I have been getting together on Mondays now for the last couple of months. Not only is Lynar great at getting info. out to everyone in Renton who’s looking for something to do, she’s also a great motivator. She’ll disagree, but man, she won’t let me just sit and enjoy my time with her. She’s always putting me to work. Thank god. If she wasn’t around I would still be tryin to organize my new kitchen, still procrastinating putting up my awesome birch tree wall mural, and most importantly I wouldn’t be running. We started that this week, and you will be getting updates as the pound drop and we look hotter and hotter and the weather gets colder and colder.

So check her page out, and keep up the good work Lynar!
